Social Media Thursday : Do it all to the Glory of God

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.1 Corinthians 10_31.png

Did you know that your online presence might be the first thing that people associate with your IRL (in real life) persona?

How you present yourself in photos, the language you use, the things you talk about all reflects on you as a child of God.

So, how do people see you?

Are you an encourager online?

Do you do everything online to the Glory of God?

Do you share the gospel, or would someone following you not know that you are a Christian?

Are you able to help a friend who is getting caught up in posting inappropriate photos or joining in with improper discussions?

God has placed you in the age of social media. Use it to be a witness. Use it well and connect with people and share the love of Christ.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Social Media Thursday :: Self Control App

Add subtitle textI have a problem with procrastination. There you go, I’ve said it ! Yes, adults have things that they struggle with too, even though because of our age, we should know better.

I spend a lot of time on the computer. My blog, doing graphic design and compiling ebooks for a lady who writes cookbooks, running social media for the family business, as well as just being on the computer or leisure time  – pinterest, answering emails, facebook, the news etcetera, etcetera and etcetera.

There are some days when I need to be focussed and the procrastination could get in the way of a deadline. This is where my friend Mr Self Control App comes in handy.

It’s a Mac based application (you can find other alternatives here) that I have installed on my desktop (it works on laptops as well) that I can use to BLOCK any access to sites that I think might distract me from the task at hand. Ie I can block pinterest, youtube, facebook, ebay 😉

So, you might be thinking, how can this help me?

If you do have a problem with self-control and just NEED to go pin a few pins, or like a few status updates (or obsessively check your fb account every three minutes) while you should be doing some study or homework – this app is for you.

Once you have plugged in the sites that you want to block , you set a timer for the amount of time that you want it blocked for. Click ok and get some work done! (Go ahead and try to change the setting.. I did and it won’t let you! Once you make the decision and click ok, there is no going back!

Titus 1:8  But hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.

You can go here to get the app.

Social Media Thursday :: Slow to Speak

Add subtitle text

Do you remember the song you may have learned really early on in your school years, or maybe at home ‘O be careful little eyes what you see’ ? There’s a a verse which also says ‘O be careful little mouth what you say’. It’s a cute rhymed ditty that drives home that we have to be careful with what we do, we have a Father who loves us looking at all we do. That also goes for what we type on our social media platforms.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+ and the rest all allow you to instantly reply to something you see, something you hear and something you read. It allows us to share any aspect of our lives instantaneously. We live in a world where the quicker the better and the world tells us to say what we think. In this world there is no time for pause, no time for reflection, no time to think!

God wants us to be slow to tweet. God wants us to be slow to post. God wants us to be slow to comment. James 1:19

God wants us to measure our words. Contemplate them and just say less. Proverbs 10:19

Consider what you type, what you post, what you tweet. If you really want to say something, pause and reflect. Say the words you type aloud. If you do type something that later just makes you feel ‘meh’, delete it.

James 3: 5 & 6

Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell
