Social Media Thursday : Do it all to the Glory of God

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.1 Corinthians 10_31.png

Did you know that your online presence might be the first thing that people associate with your IRL (in real life) persona?

How you present yourself in photos, the language you use, the things you talk about all reflects on you as a child of God.

So, how do people see you?

Are you an encourager online?

Do you do everything online to the Glory of God?

Do you share the gospel, or would someone following you not know that you are a Christian?

Are you able to help a friend who is getting caught up in posting inappropriate photos or joining in with improper discussions?

God has placed you in the age of social media. Use it to be a witness. Use it well and connect with people and share the love of Christ.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Social Media Thursday :: Slow to Speak

Do you remember the song you may have learned really early on in your school years, or maybe at home ‘O be careful little eyes what you see’ ? There’s a a verse which also says ‘O be careful little mouth what you say’. It’s a cute rhymed ditty that drives home that we have to be careful with what we do, we have a Father who loves us looking at all we do. That also goes for what we type on our social media platforms.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+ and the rest all allow you to instantly reply to something you see, something you hear and something you read. It allows us to share any aspect of our lives instantaneously. We live in a world where the quicker the better and the world tells us to say what we think. In this world there is no time for pause, no time for reflection, no time to think!

God wants us to be slow to tweet. God wants us to be slow to post. God wants us to be slow to comment. James 1:19

God wants us to measure our words. Contemplate them and just say less. Proverbs 10:19

Consider what you type, what you post, what you tweet. If you really want to say something, pause and reflect. Say the words you type aloud. If you do type something that later just makes you feel ‘meh’, delete it.

James 3: 5 & 6

Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell

Social Media Thursday

Every week there will be little snippets of things you need to consider on Social Media.

Things that you might like to change.

Mostly we will be concerned about your integrity and reputation on Social Media. That’s our job as fellow Girls of Grace.

It’s all in a  N A M E

How much info have you allowed people to obtain about you on your Facebook, Instagram and Google+ accounts just by the name you have chosen?

Do you really want your full name publicised? If you have an uncommon surname I would be thinking twice as it will not take long for someone to track you down on White Pages.com.

Even if your accounts are private, consider using your second name as your surname as it allows you to stay a little incognito on the web.

On Instagram, even though your profile maybe private, your name is out there for all to see, out there for all to search. Change it. While you are at it, change the little subline that you can create in your profile to something worthy of a Girl of Grace.

Now. Once you have done a few of these things, get mum or dad to check out your profile on their devices. Ask them – does this account show someone that I am a Child of God?

Accept their counsel.
